My Weekly To Do List

As the majority of people do, I have a problem with staying organized. I've spent an embarrassing amount of money on organizers from Franklin Covey. I've tried all four sizes and none of them stuck. So, I thought maybe something really cheap and easy might do the trick. I've been working on a schedule for the past several weeks that will help me keep my apartment clean and help me be productive. After some tweaking, this is what I am using now...

I know, terrible picture. You can download a copy here to get a better look.

Some things I like about this schedule is that I only have a few things to do everyday. I start off the day with making the bed and taking my vitamins, which are quick and easy and give me motivation to complete the rest of my tasks. I also like that I can customize it every week. At the beginning and middle of the month, I schedule a sit down with our budget so I can keep us on track (more about this later). Since this will only be twice a month, it's nice to be able to add it only to the weeks needed. I post the schedule on the refrigerator so I have easy access to it. I feel really good about myself every time I complete a task and get to mark it off.

Some things I don't like about it is that I have to make a new one each week. Also, I start to not like it when I haven't been doing my job. It's like a reminder that I'm slacking off. That could be a good thing, but who likes to be reminded of that?

Have you ever tried to use a schedule to keep up with housework and other chores? How did it work out?

By the way, if you were wondering, I used Keep and Share to upload the file and link it here. Took me a while to figure out how to do that, so I hope I can save someone the trouble.

I am just seeing this almost a week after you posted it, but I wanted to comment anyway! I have done a schedule like this before, and have found it to be fairly effective, as long as I do the things on my list first thing in the morning. I have found that if I wait at all, they just don't get done. My best success was also with a schedule like this where I only had a couple of tasks a day. I do much better with that then a schedule that has me having a "housecleaning" day. How's it going a week later?

Seeing that you're the only one to comment, I certainly don't mind it being a week later! :) This is the third week that I'm using this version and it's going great. Last week I slacked a bit and I noticed that I was a bit grouchy on the weekend. I kept telling Shane, I don't know what's wrong with me, I'm so annoyed! But when I got on my schedule, I felt so much better.

Hi Marie...I just might have to try this to see where all the time goes for me. Especially after I get home from work, maybe I can find a way to schedule in some me time. Are you still using this? By the way how is your morning walk going? I wish I was motivated to get up and do that I think its a great way to start the day, but I just cannot drag myself out of bed earlier then I already do...maybe I do need a schedule...

yeah, this is working for me really well still. i love that i only do a relatively small amount of work each day. the morning walk is going well now that caleb is used to it. i tell him we're going for a walk and he no longer asked 20 million times where we're going and why.

originally, i had scheduled "me" time in the morning. i alternated exercise and reading. but it didn't work out well since no matter how early i woke up, caleb would hear me and get up. :( but, i haven't really been needing it lately anyway for some reason. i mean, who wants to exercise anyway???

EXERCISE!!! OMG that is a bad word at my house!!!! UGH!!!
Oh, I tried to click on the link to view the schedule and it said it belongs to marief and something about you have to give me permission.....am I being problematic with all my problems!!!????

that's funny :) i didn't realize i had to give permission. i'll try to fix it today. i can test it out by trying to download it from Shane's computer.

ok, so i think i fixed it. a window should pop up asking if you want to open it or save it. when i tried to open it, it didn't work. but then i saved it and then opened it and it worked. let me know if it works for you. you shouldn't have to sign up for an account to view the file. thanks for trying to download it, you're the only one to try :)
