When we started looking for a church out here in Monterey, Joanna suggested we try Calvary. We also tried out two other churches but we settled at Calvary. For three weeks now, I've been attending the woman's bible study on tuesday mornings. They provide child care!
When we lived in Arlington, I went to a woman's bible study. But, I really disliked how unorganized it was. Most of the time we sat around and chatted about whatever. And more than once, the topic of befriending non-Christians came up. It was very difficult for them and they would go on and on about why. I would gently try to remind them that I wasn't a Christian. Anyway, that group is a big reason why I gave up trying to become a Christian.
But this bible study at Calvary? They actually study the bible!! The first part is kind of like church, then we get together in small groups and discuss the lesson. It's very productive.
And I've met some super nice ladies. Some are going through some really tough problems right now. It's a reminder to myself to stay away from self-pity. There is ALWAYS someone out there who has it way worse than you. Not that I have it bad. But, I'm so dependant on sleep, that when I'm exhausted, I get crazy thoughts in my head, like I have some good excuse to be unhappy with my life. Get real!
And some of you will probably think this is funny, but last week I learned that Matthew, Mark, Luke and John are the four Gospels and they tell the story of Jesus. Maybe I had heard that before and it just didn't click. But, I learned that for good last week and told the ladies "haha, that's probably good to know, huh?" And they went on and on about how they love John and how he's the Love Apostle. Not sure what that means, but I guess I'll figure it out.
Anyway, if I have time, I'll probably be blogging about what I learn if it gives me a warm fuzzy and I feel like sharing.

Hee hee! LOVE it! Can't wait to see what you, and in turn I, learn. :)
I go to the Calvary church here and like it a lot too. Glad you've found a better group this time!
I'm glad you found a place you like! And imagine that, a Bible study that actually studies the Bible! :) I'd love to hear what you learn.
