I always try to look at things as being "meant to be". When I was younger and didn't really have any feelings about God, I called it "fate". But, now that we're going to church and I'm learning more about the Bible and God, I like the idea of God having a plan for me. Seems so comforting somehow to know that there's a purpose for me and a reason for all the things that happen.
Yesterday, as we turned into the driveway for our church, I told Shane that I had been really thinking about this house we might buy and what it means for us. It's relatively large and we would be getting it at a great price... relatively speaking. So, why us? Why are we so blessed in so many ways?
Well, we are, even if we don't get this particular house. But, if we get this house, with lots of room for more than three kids, it seems so selfish to me to keep it to ourselves. And so, I would feel so strongly about fostering a child in a few years. We could really make a difference and I've had the desire to do since I was in high school. That's gotta mean something.
So, I told this to Shane and he said "Makes sense."
And then! Pastor Nate was finishing up his teachings on Mark 9. He talked about greatness.
9:33 They came to Capernaum. When he was in the house, he asked them, "What were you arguing about on the road?" 34But they kept quiet because on the way they had argued about who was the greatest.
9:35 Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, "If anyone wants to be first, he must be the very last, and the servant of all."
9:36 He took a little child and had him stand among them. Taking him in his arms, he said to them, 37"Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me."
First of all, I absolutely love that line "If anyone wants to be first, he must be the very last, and the servant of all."
And when he elaborated about 9:36-37, he talked about ministering to children and how we as parents need to make more of an effort to connect with our children and to most importantly not be a hypocrite when it comes to following the bible. He said lots more, but I'm terrible about talking about this stuff.
He also talked about one of the pastors who specifically ministers to foster children! How they are the modern orphans and they are victims because they can't chose their parents or their circumstances!
I really couldn't believe what a coincidence it was! I nudged Shane and he just smiled and then on the way home he said he was fully on board with fostering in a couple of years!! Hooray!!
So, looks like this will definitely be our last baby. Not our last child, but the last baby born to us.

God is great! It sounds a lot like when we made the decision to homeschool. It was amazing how many times God worked "homeschooling" into the conversation until I knew He was telling me to do it. And there really is a great need for foster parents. Thanks for sharing this. It is fun to hear about!
That is totally awesome! God is great. His ways are mysterious and amazing.
