Since Caleb is currently an only child, but clearly meant to be a child of many, I've been exploring ways to maintain some creative play. He's a boy and I am not. This creates a problem since he wants to play with monster trucks and pretend that we're pirates hunting for monsters hiding in closets. I don't find this particularly interesting. I figure it's probably my job to play along and so I try. But, I'm desperate to find a better way to play with him, one in which I can muster some enthusiasm.
I got this book to help me come up with fun activities. The book is organized in themes and has a list of activities, recipes, songs, and books for each. I'm going to try out a theme a week and see how that goes. This week is Frogs. Yesterday (Monday), we went to the library and borrowed some frog books. Most were stories, but one was an educational book and it was very fortunate that I picked this up. The first pages asks "where do frogs live?", "what do frogs eat?" and "how do tadpoles change into frogs?" This gave me a great idea to focus our activities around these questions.
So today, I cut out the letters F, R, O and G. Caleb helped me tack them on the board. Then I drew four stages of a frog's life cycle and had Caleb paint them.
I cut them out and he helped me tack these on the board also.
And because one paint brush just isn't enough...

Wow that is too cute! Ok, I know frogs are not supposed to be cute, but I think you got a great idea going! Caleb can learn and have fun at the same time! We still cannot get over how BIG he is getting! P.S. What's an east coast kid doing wearing a 49er's football shirt? LOL! Thanks for the cute post, I look forward to your next theme. Is the library close to you?
OOOhhhhhh!! That's really neat!
Oh he is adorable :)
My mom gave Caleb that shirt. He wears it at least once a week. It's my way of clinging to my West coast roots.
Oh, I get it! Derrek said the 49ers are your Uncle Rons favorite team, I just thought it was funny to see him in that being so far away from here.
Very cute, Marie!
Hello? Anybody there?
