West Coast Update 2

Shane got word yesterday that the jobs in Monterey and Mountain View are not going to work out. He's too expensive for the Monterey job and the skills for the Mountain View job don't line up well enough with his experience (he had said it was a stretch from the beginning, but I guess I was ignoring that bit).

So, now we are on to San Diego. We're both feeling an itch to get out of here by the end of January, so hopefully things will start moving along quickly. We have some things going for us as far as finding a job in S.D. Shane's company has the second largest amount of jobs there (D.C. being the first), so it's more likely he'll be able to find something that aligns with his job skills and the level that they are seeking (which was the problem with the Monterey job). And there are several people that Shane works with that have connections to S.D. That will help out immensely.

Although S.D. is not within driving distance of my family, I think we'll be happy there. At least it's only a short plane ride. And now that it's getting cold here (high today is 38 degress!!!), I'm looking forward to living somewhere with milder temperatures. It would be so great if we could get an apartment with a pool, cause Caleb would really love that. I feel bad right now, because he keeps wanting to go to the playground, but there's no way I'm sitting out there in that cold!

After we move to Cali, maybe I will compile an extensive list about why I can't live the rest of my life on the East Coast. But here's one that drives me crazy. So, being from Hawaii, I always have rice on hand. But, we ran out of rice a few days ago. I must confess that we don't eat as much rice as we used to and not even close to how much I ate growing up, but I make a pot at least once a week. I can't get the 20 lb. bag of rice at Costco, because the end of January is only two and a half months away, and I'm not sure that we'd be able to finish it. So, you're probably thinking that I should just go to the grocery store to buy rice. Well, I can't!! Because the only white rice they sell in the grocery stores is long-grain!!! UGH!! So, I have to drive 20 miles to a Korean market just to get a smaller bag of medium-grain rice. And you know I couldn't resist buying Spam at Costco, so now I'm so sad. Because I have Spam and no rice to eat it with. *wwhhhhaaaaaaaaahhhhh*

ROTFLOL!!! What is with the rice?? We get all our rice at the Korean store because the American grocers only sell long grain. It's annoying, I know. I'm sorry for you that you have to drive 20 minutes...I only have to drive 5. Don't you just hate me? :)))
