You Get What You Pay For

Even though I've known for a long time that this saying is true, I still find it interesting when I see proof of it. A few months ago, I made Caleb four pajama pants. I bought all the material at Joann's. I made one pant with flame-retardant fabric that was quite expensive ($8), one pant with non-pill fleece that was less expensive ($5), and two with the super cheap ($3) flannel.  I pre-washed all the fabric before I sewed the pants together.

The flame-retardant fabric has held up the best. It doesn't look worn at all and hasn't shrunk.

The fleece has held up well also.  I think the length might have shrunk a little, but then again, this could just be the length that I made them at.

And the flannel totally sucks!  I'll never buy it again!  It has faded very badly and shrunk terribly. I did make the cuffs so that I can let them out.  But the top part has actually shrunk also, which for some reason you can't really tell in the picture, but believe me it has.

So, in the future I will make all pajama pants from the flame-retardant or non-pill fleece.  I just have to make sure to use a coupon.  Stay away from the flannel!  Stay away!
