Scene: This morning, trying to get ready to take Ana to the doctor because she's been sick for 5 days. We had KFC for dinner last night because the electricity went out and we thought it was a great time for our yearly KFC dinner. We only do this once a year because although it's so good going down, the after effects are not good. I think Shane put it well when he said "I wish I could shower on my inside."
Caleb: I want to eat that chicken right now.
Me: Not right now. But there are two peices left and you and I are going to eat that and the mashed potatoes for lunch!
Caleb: YUMMMMM! I want the big piece!
Me: No. You get the drumstick and I get the thigh.
Caleb: I want the big piece. It's so tasty!
Me: No.
Caleb: (Goes on and on about how he wants the big piece. But not in a whiney tone, it was more matter of fact.) I'm going to eat the biggest piece of chicken and the biggest mashed potatoes! (holding his hands about 2 feet apart as if he were showing off some big fish he'd caught)
Me: Are you going to ride to the doctor with Daddy? (Shane took his truck cause he went to work after the appt.)
Caleb: Yes.
Me: Good. Cause I can't take much more of this arguing this early in the morning before I've had some coffee.
Shane: You think that's arguing?
Me: Yes. You don't think he was arguing?
Shane: I thought that was just banter.
Me: I said "No." twice and he kept going. To me, that's arguing. If I hadn't interrupted him or raised my voice he wouldn't stop until I changed my mind to reflect what he wants. You really didn't see what he was trying to do to me?
Shane: Wow. (laughing) I love that kid! He's going to be the CEO of an international corporation some day!
(To be fair to Shane, he hadn't had any coffee yet either and he needs it way more than I do to be a functional human :)
